ODDS AND ENDS Continued From Page 4 the Lutherans are still following traditional interpretation of the Scripture in their judgment of gays as sinful, the committee called for equality under the law for all gay people...

The Pacific Coast Times reports that unknown to the public, transsexual tennis star Renee Richards dresses and talks like a man whenever she visits her five year old son, Nicki. Dr. Richards apparently. reverts to a male role to maintain a "father image" for the son she fathered before her sexchange operation in 1975. This information comes from Augustine Vigo, an elevator I operator in Dr. Richards' former wife's apartment building. Since her operation, Dr. Richards doesn't visit her ex-wife, according to Vigo. "He never goes upstairs," said Vigo. "I go up and get the boy and they go off for a few hours together in his car." Vigo said Richards and son "love each other very much."

Quotable Quote from The New York Times editorial of March 24, 1977: "Mayor Beame did a quite courageous thing the other day when he appointed Robert Livingston to the city's. Human Rights Commission. Mr. Livingston is an able and useful citizen of the community and he is also a homosexual. Considering the discrimination to which homosexuals have been subjected in this country, this appointment is of no small significance. It serves as a recognition that homosexual citizens have solid contributions to make to the public life of our city. We think Mr. Livingston's approach is just right for a newly minted public servant: 'I don't want to be known as the gay member of the commission. I want to be known as the commissioner who is gay."

GCN reports ten University of Oklahoma students face harassment charges in Superior Court after they wore T shirts sporting the slogans, "Bury a Fairy" and "Do the World a Favor Shoot a Faggot." If found guilty, the students could face expulsions, suspension, or disciplinary probation. The episode is yet another expression (albeit a perverted one,) of the campus dispute over whether the university should recognize the campus Gay Ac-

tivist Alliance. The O.S. Student and Board of Regents have refused to recognize the gay group, and the T shirt wearers claimed they were supporting the anti-gay position. Said John Mehring of the Gay Activists Alliance, "There's a lot of sickness on this campus."...

FOOLISH PUBLIC OFFICIALS

Two recent public events provided forums for public figures to make fools of themselves. Undoubtedly widely observed was Norman Mailer's tasteless story about Voltaire's visit to a homosexual brothel that fell flat before the audience at the Academy Award presentations on March 28, 1977. Less well known is the spectacle that took place during the responses to the satiric presentations at the Gridiron Club in Washington, D.C. on the evening of March 19, 1977. Reporting the next day in the Washington Post, Joseph P. Mastrangelo said of one of the responses to the club's ribbing of the Washington establishment: "Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker got a laugh when he said that President Carter had originally planned to appoint Billy Carter head of CIA, but Billy didn't want to be head of anything he couldn't spell. In the minds of a lot of guests Baker went downhill from there when he began to make references to homosexual jokes about the armed forces and at one point talked about the Marines putting a corsage on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
